Business Partners or Business Alliance is a little different from the "partnership" which is actually a form of ownership.
Business alliance takes place when two similar or completely different businesses (or professionals) join hands. Normally, business alliance is formed for the purpose of cost reduction, or two businesses or professionals may team up to provide better services to their clients. Another reason can be the lack of funds or technical expertise on any of the partner’s part. Whatever the cause or nature of the alliance, good business partners are hard to find (as is the case with any other type of partners), and the fact that you are going to find them online just adds to the possibility of setbacks in the future. Ideally, your business partner must be residing or operating from someplace near your location, in case you are not able to find one in your locality, you can search for the partners online. However, you must keep in mind the following guidelines.
Experience & Skills:
You can forego these traits if you are looking for partners solely for funding purposes. Otherwise, your partner must be having adequate experience or skills. Do not get impressed by someone talking big over the internet. If anything, it just shows that one is good at convincing people on internet, and nothing else. Instead, take a look at their experience and working history, if you are going to team up with a fresh graduate, you can have a look at some of the projects he/she has worked on during their education.
Be Patient:
An alliance, which is formed hurriedly, will most probably fall apart in the same rapid manner. You must spend enough time in doing research, analyzing the alliance from all angles and talking to references about the person you are going to collaborate with. Give it some time, meanwhile stay in touch with the prospective partner and observe how keen they are to get on with the venture. Ideally he/she must be having an online presence (e.g. Blog, social network at websites like Linkedin or twitter). Be on your guard if the guy seems to have little or no online presence.
Documenting the partnership:
It’s always better to put terms and conditions and the nature of the collaboration in writing, along with both partner’s rights and responsibilities. In the absence of any legal documents, you will be getting into some nuisance, sooner or later. Do not get into long contracting period, opt for short term collaboration first and see if it works out well.
